James E. Bivens, 85, of Belleville, Ill., born Sunday, Jan. 18, 1931, in Maroa, Ill., died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Ill.
Jim worked as a salesman for American Bakery. He was a member of Gothic Lodge 852 A.F.&A.M., Scottish Rite Bodies, Ainad Shrine, (Drum Corp and Color Guard). Southern Illinois Court 86 ROJ. Elks Lodge 664 of Fairview Heights, Ill., and a Korean War United States Air Force veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Velma William and Beulah, nee Cassell, Bivens; and a sister, Azaela Murry.
Surviving are his wife, Betty B., nee Fessel, Bivens of Belleville, Ill.; son, James E. (Chris) Bivens, II of Millstadt, Ill.; daughter, Tammy L. (Barry) Barton of Belleville, Ill.; sisters, Judy (Roger) Jorgenson of Cleveland, Ohio, Gailyn (Chuck) Dowling of Collinsville, Ill., and Michelle Murphree of Collinsville, Ill.; grandchildren, Casey (Cameron Cooley) Bivens, Bobby Bivens, Calvin (Brooke) Barton, Cory Barton, Marybeth Berkbuegler, Alicia (Eric) Roche, and Justin (Mary) Barton; great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Barton, Calie Cooley, Alaina Barton, Haylei Barton, and Hannah Barton; and nieces, nephews and a host of great friends.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2016, at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, Ill.

Funeral: A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2016, at Kurrus Funeral Home, with Pastor Myra Gummersheimer officiating. Private family interment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo., at a later date.
