James H. "Sam" DeWeese, 73, of Marissa, Ill.; born Feb. 13, 1943, in Cache, Ill.; passed away Friday, March 18, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Belleville, Ill.
Mr. DeWeese started work as a laborer on different farms before eventually working as a factory laborer. He was a member of Trinity Assembly of God Church in Olive Branch, Ill. Sam was well known at two Marissa restaurants, The Diner and Marissa Antique Station.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester DeWeese and Elsie, nee Rollins, Houston; his step-father, Roy Houston; two brothers, Lester DeWeese, and Marion DeWeese; a sister, Dorothy Vaughn; and two brothers-in-law, Frank Vaughn, and Harry Coleson.
Surviving are a brother, Charles (Dorothy) DeWeese of Paducah, Ky.; four sisters, Mary Coleson of Olive Branch, Ill., JoAnn (Jerry) Ritter of New Athens, Ill., Shirley (Jerry) Sams of Olive Branch, Ill., and Joyce Bigham of Olive Branch, Ill.; and a sister-in-law, Shirley DeWeese of Granite City, Ill. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Trinity Assembly of God Church, Olive Branch, Ill., with Pastor Stephen Clardy officiating. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery, Olive Branch, Ill.
