James Leroy Newton, 91, of Belleville, Ill., born April 5, 1924, in Belleville, Ill., passed away Monday, March 21, 2016, in Belleville, Ill.
James honorably served his country in the United States Navy in the Pacific, during World War II. He was a member of First Divine Science Church, where he served as president of the board of directors. James also took pride and joy in being a devoted member of several organizations. He was a member of Elks Lodge 481 Belleville, the Millstadt Gun Club, the NRA, and also the Cub Pack and Boy Scout Leader Boy Scouts of America.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Imogene, nee Yereb, Newton; his son, Daniel Newton; his parents, Harry M. and Marie, nee Jorns, Newton; two brothers, Thomas and Harry Newton; a sister, Rose Marie, nee Newton, Jorns; sisters-in-law, Helen Yereb, Blanche, nee Falcetti, Newton, and Martha Newton; brothers-in-law, Alfred Jorns and Lee Wetzel; goddaughter, Carol, nee Jorns, Grueber; nephews, Richard Newton, and Harry Newton Jr.; and great-nephew, Harry Newton III.
Surviving are his brother, Andrew P. Newton; sister, Ruth A., nee Newton, Wetzel; nephews, Tom Wetzel, godson Jeffrey Wetzel, Ronald Newton, Mark Newton, and David Jorns; nieces, Sally Wetzel, Kathy, nee Newton, Neuner, Pat, nee Jorns, Zitta, and Pam Newton; and many more great-nieces and great-nephews, family, and friends who will cherish his memory.

Funeral: A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, March 28, 2016 at the funeral home with Rev. Mary Keller officiating. Inurnment will be immediately following service.
