Janet E. Clarkin, 74, of Highland, Ill., born March 7, 1942, in Highland, Ill., died Thursday, July 14, 2016, at her residence.
Janet grew up on the family farm Northwest of Grantfork, Ill. She was a graduate of Highland High School, class of 1959. She drove a school bus for 15 years for Ramsey Bus Service while raising her children. She moved to Troy, Ill., and started working as a rural carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, starting in 1979 and retiring in the early 2000's. She moved back to Highland in the late 1990's. She enjoyed cross stitching and crafts. She also loved visiting with her daughters and grandchildren. She played cards with two groups and liked playing dominos.
Janet was a member of the Grantfork United Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Clarkin, whom she married on Nov. 22, 1991, in Las Vegas, Nev., and who died Feb. 6, 2004; and her parents, Wilbur H. and Nelda L., nee Kesner, Grotefendt.
Surviving are her daughters, Patti A. (Kevin) Wilhoit of Hollywood, Fla., and Christi K. (Hugo) Rosario of Hollywood, Fla.; stepsons, Michael W. Clarkin of Boston, Mass., and Partick (Nino) Clarkin of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Kory A. Wilhoit of Hollywood, Fla., Kelli A. Wilhoit of Hollywood, Fla., Riley N. Rosario of Hollywood, Fla., and Christopher R. Rosario of Hollywood, Fla.; sisters, Sharon K. (Larry) Moss of Highland, Ill., and Joyce A. Grotefendt of Highland, Ill.; and her first husband, Richard M. (Kathleen) Essenpreis of Highland, Ill., whom she married on May 5, 1961 and divorced in 1985.

Visitation: Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2016, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill., and from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Grantfork United Church of Christ in Grantfork, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Grantfork United Church of Christ in Grantfork, Ill., with Rev. Tim A. Darmour-Paul officiating. Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, Ill.
