Jay "Jaybird" Peterson, 69, of Belleville, Ill., born August 8, 1946 in Belleville, Ill., died Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Ill.
Mr. Peterson was a Vietnam Army veteran. He was the lead man at Peerless Stove Foundry in Belleville, Ill., for over 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara L., nee Wills, Peterson; his second wife, Carol Jean Johnson; and his parents, Leland and Medella, nee Paule, Peterson.
Surviving are his special friend, Joanie; his five children, Sheila (Tina) Vernon of Belleville, Ill., Jennifer Gottschammer of Fayetteville, Ill., Connie Rae (Michael) Sontheimer of Fairview Heights, Ill., Margery (Jaime) Santos of Fairview Heights, Ill., and Avey (Erica) Johnson of Aviston, Ill.; his eight grandchildren, Noah Vernon, Tiana Vernon, Devin (friend Raven) Gottschammer, Audie (Melissa) Rachell, Danielle Rachell, Abby Johnson, Grace Johnson, and Kate Johnson; his three great-grandchildren, Riley Rachell, Phoenix Rachell, and Vincent Rachell; his brother, Edward Peterson of Belleville, Ill.; his two sisters, Julie (Jimmy) Ross of North Little Rock, Ark., and Cora Fisher of LaVerne, Calif.; his aunt, Ellen Paule of Belleville, Ill.; and his furbuddy, Dallas.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2016 at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill.
Funeral: Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill. A gathering will follow at Shiloh Golden Corral.
