Jean Lehr, nee Schultz, of Belleville, Ill., born March 7, 1928, in Belleville, Ill., passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, Ill.
Jean loved sewing, photography and cake decorating. She made wedding cakes for all of her children and wedding gowns for her daughters and daughter-in-law. Jean worked as a stenographer at Scott AFB and Keeler AFB, Miss. Jean married Edward Lehr on June 28, 1947, in Belleville, Ill. The Air Force took them to Biloxi, Miss., where their first daughter was born. Later they were transferred to Kisarazu, Japan where their second daughter was born. When Edward's enlistment was up the family returned to Belleville, Ill., where their two sons were born.
Later on Jean worked for the Belleville School District and for the US Census Bureau. Jean was a Girl Scout leader for many years and a neighborhood chairman. She was co-leader of the Cadets Girl Scout Troop in Collinsville, Ill. Jean was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 58, past presidents Parley and VFW Auxiliary. A past president of Henry Raab PTA, Central Junior High PTA, past membership chairman of the Illinois PTA and an honorary lifetime member of the Illinois PTA. She served as president of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 58 and St. Clair - Monroe County American Legion. She was also a member of the Southside Improvement Association Booster Club.
One of the highlights of her life was in October 1985, when she had the privilege of being a passenger of the Confederate Air Force's B-29 "FIFI" from Houston to Virginia.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Edward W. Lehr who passed away on Aug. 10, 1975; parents, Gregory Schultz and Bess, nee Kunkelmann, Schultz; brother, Arthur Schultz at the age of 22; and a sister , Erna Schultz at the age of two and a half.
Surviving are her four children; daughters, Sherry (Jeff) Weckman of Florida, Mindy (Stan) Stewart of California and sons, Michael (Jacqueline) Lehr of Virginia and Tracy Lehr of Belleville, Ill.; and six grandchildren, Christopher, Jason, Jonathan, Michael, Ashley and Lexie.

Funeral: Services will be held at noon Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Arthur Tinge officiating. Interment will be held in the Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, Ill.
