Jerry A. Benson, 53, of Freeburg, Ill., born Aug. 5, 1960, in Bryan, Ohio, died on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at Siteman Cancer Center, St. Louis, Mo.

Jerry was a manager at Century Brass Works, Belleville, Ill. He loved camping with his life-long friends, boating and his dogs. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Jerry was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Freeburg, Ill.

He was preceded in death by parents, Leo C. and Nomalee D., nee Underwood, Benson; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rodger Sr., and Joan, nee Mueller, Ames.

Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Deborah J., nee Ames, Benson, whom he married on May 29, 1982; two children, Lauren Benson and Clayton Benson, both of Freeburg, Ill.; a brother, Bruce (Julia) Benson of Belleville, Ill.; a sister, Zonetta (James) Holschen of Belleville, Ill.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Michelle (Steven) Ward of Freeburg, Ill., Rodger Ames Jr. of Collinsville, Ill., Angela Ames (fiance, Jason Swope) of Freeburg, Ill., and Theodore Mueller of Freeburg, Ill.; and nieces and nephews, Kelly, Sarah, Hannah, Christina, Jessica, August, Dalton, and Ella.

Memorials may be made to the Siteman Cancer Center, Washington University, Campus Box 1204, 7425 Forsyth Blvd., St. Louis, Mo. 63105. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation: Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Freeburg, Ill.

Funeral: Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Freeburg, Ill., with Monsignor William Hitpas officiating. Cremation to follow the services.
