Jewell S. Cookson, nee Harris, 78, of Collinsville, Ill.,, born Aug. 24, 1928, in Columbia, S.C., died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at Gateway Regional Hospital, Granite City, Ill.
Jewell was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Fairview Heights, Ill., and the Relief Society of Latter Day Saints. She was a longtime volunteer and tour guide at the Cahokia Mounds Historical Site.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allan H. Cookson; her parents, Benjamin and Bessie, nee Bone, Harris; and a brother, Joseph Harris.
She is survived by her eight children, Shirley (Jim) Cline of Pierron, Ill., Beverly (Ronald) Joiner of Mulberry Grove, Ill., Rick (Dot) Cookson of Edwardsville, Ill., Denise (Tom) Nash of Granite City, Ill., Lise (Bruce) Kuck of Staunton, Ill., Robin Hanebrink of Greenville, Ill., Vicki (Paul) Dresser of Godfrey, Ill., and Christian Cookson of Collinsville, Ill.; 20 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to her church's Missionary Fund.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill., and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Fairview Heights, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Fairview Heights, Ill., with Bishop James Reed officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Collinsville, Ill.
