Johanna M. Bukovac, nee Zotti, 98, of Pontoon Beach, born April 21, 1918, died Saturday, Nov 12, 2016.
After graduating from Stallings Grade School, she was awarded a full Normal Scholarship from the State of Illinois. Johanna is a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ladies Auxiliary the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She belonged to St. Elizabeth's Parish in Granite City and was active in their Ladies Sodality and a Eucharistic Minister.
On September 12, 1999 she made her profession to the Secular Order of Franciscans, the Monte La Verna Fraternity. She was the co-owner and operator of A & J Grocery, with her husband Andrew Bukovac for over 44 years in Pontoon Beach. She helped form the Pontoon Beach Water District. Johanna will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Johanna is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Andrew Bukovac, whom she married June 29, 1940; parents, Donato and Rosina Maria, nee Tessari, Zotti; brothers; sisters; and in-laws: John Zotti; Leonard and Emmadella (Schmidt) Zotti; Catherine (Zotti) Lochmann and Herbert Lochmann; Rose (Zotti) Kohler and Raymond Kohler, and twin babies, Anthony and Anna, who died shortly after birth.
Surviving are her sister in law, JoAnn (Carey) Zotti and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation: In celebration of her life, friends may visit from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. with Father Chris Comerford as celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.
