John Luja, 96, of Fairview Heights, Ill., born February 12, 1919, in Radvilikis, Lithuania, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, at his residence.
John earned his degree in Agricultural and Horticultural Science in Lithuania. After immigrating to the United States, John became owner/operator of Luja's Nursery and Landscaping in Fairview Heights, Ill., in operation for the past 58 years. He also loved bowling, fishing and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Julia, nee Pumputyte, Luja; his son, Edmundas Luja; his granddaughter, Sarah Luja Cummins; and his son-in-law, Donnen Luja.
Surviving are his wife, Ann, nee Teikertaite, Luja, whom he married 71 years ago on June 24, 1944, in Siaulia, Lithuania; his children, Vitas (Laura) Luja of Swansea, Ill., Donna (David) Lujaking of Indianapolis, Ind., and Loretta Luja of Tuscon, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Tavute Didzuliene and Danute Stakutis, both in Lithuania.

Funeral: A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill., with Father Clyde Grogan officiating.
