John Alan Meehan, 85, formerly of Collinsville, Ill., born Dec. 7, 1930 in Granite City, Ill., passed away at 2:55 a.m. on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Caseyville Nursing Home in Caseyville, Ill.
John graduated from Watseka High School in Watseka, Ill., in 1948. He retired after 30 years of service as a printer for the St. Louis Post Dispatch. After retirement, he was a golf instructor at Disney World. He was an Army veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a post commander for the American Legion Post 8 in Winter Haven, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael Emmett Meehan and Cecilia, nee Bell, Alexander; and a brother, Emmett Meehan.
Surviving are his spouse, Marilyn, nee Walsh, Meehan, whom he married on Sept. 9, 1950; a son, John (Jan) Meehan, Jr. of Shiloh, Ill.; three daughters, Laura Bone of Maryville, Ill., Toni (Darrell) Walling of Collinsville, Ill., and Kelly (Joe) Ossola of Collinsville, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Chad (Stephanie) Walling of Collinsville, Ill., Emily (Erik) Wiedower of Maryville, Ill., Josh (Lindsay) Walling of Caseyville, Ill., Leslie (Darrin) Compton of Maryville, Ill., B.J. Bone of Glen Carbon, Ill., Matthew Bone of Los Angeles, Calif., Rainy (Nick) Reinhardt of Collinsville, Ill., and Ryan Ossola of St. Louis, Mo.; nine great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Makena, Preston, Dane, Casen, Liam, Hannah, Reese, and Stella; two brothers, Jerry (Barb) McAnarney of Hot Springs Village, Ark., and Paul "Mick" (Sandy) McAnarney of Watseka, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
