Joseph Czwornog, 92, of Granite City, Ill., born March 18, 1924, in Madison, Ill., passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Granite Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Joseph was the office manager at Luria Brothers Scrap Iron and Steel for over 35 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, where he was an usher for 40 years, St. Elizabeth Holy Name, the Knights of Columbus 1098 and the 78th Division Veterans Association. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WW II where he earned a Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars, two Overseas Service Bars, Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Star Medal.He will be remembered for the love of his family and the many special times they shared together.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanislaws and Aniela, nee Graduszewski, Czwornog; and his brother, Julius Czwornog.
He is survived by and will be missed by his wife of 66 years, Anna, nee Ostrenga, Czwornog; sons, Michael and (Joan) Czwornog of Denver, Colo., Thomas Czwornog of San Diego, Calif., and Gregory and (Carol) Czwornog of Orlando, Fla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Masses or tuition assistance for the students at St. Elizabeth Catholic School.
Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2016, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, Ill.
Funeral: In celebration of his life, services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2300 Pontoon Road in Granite City with Father Chris Comerford officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville, Ill.
