Joseph Novosel, 87, of Maryville, Ill., formerly of Granite City, Ill., born May 1, 1928, in Madison, Ill., passed away at 12:38 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill.
Joseph retired in 1985 from Vesci Incorporated after 35 years of dedicated service as a truck driver. He was a member of Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville and former member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City. He loved tending to his yard, cutting grass and riding his tractor. He was known for his barbecues and enjoyed his days of hunting and fishing. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence M., nee Lucido, Novosel, whom he married on Oct. 13, 1951, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granite City, and who died March 9, 2005; his parents, Michael and Reza "Teresa", nee Asperian, Novosel; five brothers, Steve Novosel, Mike Novosel, Frank Kraus, John Kraus and Louis Kraus; and a sister, Mary Vrenick.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Norma L., nee Podhorn, Peipert Novosel, whom he married on Oct. 18, 2008, at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville, Ill.; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael J. and Lori Novosel of Highland, Joseph A. and Karan Novosel of Hardin, Nick Novosel of Maryville and John P. Novosel of Granite City; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lisa and Chris Smith of Granite City, Mary Noser of Collinsville and Rita and Bryan Paskero of Maryville; three stepsons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Sarah Peipert of Carrollton, Mike and Oahn Peipert of Chicago and Steven and Melissa Peipert of Ellisville, Mo.; two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Ed Kocal of Blue Grass, Iowa and Laura and Roger Rust of Jerseyville; 26 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

Visitation: In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2016, at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon, Ill.
Funeral: A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville with Father Joseph Havrilka officiating. Burial will be at Buck Road Cemetery in Maryville, Ill.
