Staff Sgt. Joshua Allen Melton, 26, of Germantown, Ill., born Oct. 8, 1982, in Breese, Ill., was killed while serving in Kandahar Afghanistan on June 19, 2009.
Josh was serving with the Illinois Army National Guard in Afghanistan. He enjoyed being with family and friends especially his daughter, Aubrey. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the Carlyle VFW Post 3523.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Clarice Reddick; grandfather, Jinx Warren; uncles, Dennis Melton and Tim Hitpas; and aunt, Doris Legate.
Surviving are his wife, Larissa, nee Verdeyen, Melton of Germantown, Ill., whom he married on July 22, 2006, at St. Boniface Church in Germantown, Ill.; daughter, Aubrey Melton; father, Michael Melton of Carlyle, Ill.; mother, Debbie, nee Warren, Rodgers of Kirby, Texas; brother, Dustin (Lauren) Melton of Aviston, Ill.; father-in-law, Steve Verdeyen of Fairview Heights, Ill.; mother-in-law, Carolyn (Rick) Pennington of Clifton Ariz.; sister-in-law, Andrea (friend, Nate Richter) Verdeyen of O'Fallon, Mo.; grandparents, Elmer and Nadine Melton of Carlyle, Ill., and Bill Reddick of Keyesport, Ill.;many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Visitation: Friends may call after 3 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2009, and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday June 27, 2009, at Moss Funeral Home in Germantown, Ill.
Funeral: Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown, Ill., with Fr. James Buerster and Deacon Rich Bagby officiating. Interment with full military honors accorded in St. Mary Cemetery in Carlyle, Ill.
