Kenneth Lane Cooper II, 24, of Granite City, Ill., passed away on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital with his loving family by side. Lane was born on Jan. 19, 1990, in Granite City, Ill.
On March 9, 2013, Lane married Chelsea Withers, the love of his life. Lane enjoyed playing all kinds of video games and was also a Star Wars fan. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. Lane will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Lane was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Oscar and Eula Cooper and maternal grandmother, Betty Lou Clark.
Lane is survived by his loving wife, Chelsea Cooper of Granite City, Ill.; parents, Kenneth and Marcia Cooper of Granite City, Ill.; three brothers, Jason (Kelly) Herzing of Newport News, Va., Jonathan Moore of Granite City, Ill., and Jordan (Nikki) Saunders of Sheridan, Ark.; nephew, Dimitri Lane Herzing; grandfather, Thad Clark of Corning, Ark.; grandparents, Peggy and J.D. West of Smithfield, Va.; mother and father-in-law, Steve and Sherri McKinzie of Granite City, Ill.; brother-in-law, Kyle McKinzie; sister-in-law, Kaylee McKinzie; extended family and many dear friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Brian Van Tine for the loving care he gave to Lane.
Memorial donations may be given to C.J.'s Journey "childhood and young adult cancer awareness" or to his wife, Chelsea and will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, Ill.
Funeral: In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, Ill., with Pastor Mark Powell officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, Ill.
