Obituary Condolences

A Freeburg farmer died Monday afternoon after a grain wagon rolled over on top of him. Kent Heidenreich, 48, of 7325 Blacksmith Shop Road near Freeburg, became trapped under loaded grain wagon about 5 p.m. Monday. A neighbor spotted Heidenreich's grain wagon near the 7700 block of Press Road sitting at an angle about a quarter mile south of his residence in a field, said St. Clair County Sheriff's Sgt. George Mokriakow, and the man approached to see whether anything was wrong. "The victim told the neighbor that the left front spindle came off the wheel with a full load of grain," Mokriakow said. "The victim told him he wanted to place tarp over wagon to protect the grain from the rain." The neighbor went to one side of the wagon and Heidenreich went to the other to place the tarp when the wagon rolled over, Mokriakow said. The neighbor went to Heidenreich, but couldn't see him and called 911. The Freeburg Fire Department arrived, winched up the wagon and found Heidenreich, who was pronounced dead at the scene by St. Clair County Deputy Coroner Michael Schutzenhoffer, Mokriakow said. "This was a very unfortunate accident," Mokriakow said.
