Larry Duncan

Larry J. Duncan, 70, of New Athens, Ill., born Oct. 6, 1942, in Eagle Pass, Texas, passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at home.

Mr. Duncan proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a self-made man working extremely hard for everything he achieved. He was a supervisor and trainer with the Petrochemical Company, Himont USA, Inc. in Houston, Texas. His job included traveling all over the world to train chemical engineers on how to make plastics out of petrochemicals. After retiring from Himont USA he was named "Salesman of the Year" in 1994, from the Toyota Corporation, while working for Tom Peacock Nissan in Houston, Texas. He was a member of the American Legion Post 2910, and the Lion's Club, in New Athens. He was a humble man who enjoyed golf, fishing, and American history. His passion was discussing and explaining the Civil War, Great Depression, World War II and current day politics to his friends and family, but especially to his grandchildren. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira B. and Vera D., nee Tyboroshi, Duncan.

Surviving are his loving wife of 26 years, Joan Duncan, nee Todd, of New Athens, Ill.; his children, Andrew (Beth) Duncan of Kingwood, Texas, Tommy (Linda) Thompson of Marissa, Ill., Marsha (Marty) Degenhardt of Murphysboro, Ill., and Kelly (Scott) Beggs of Smithton, Ill.; his grandchildren, Michael (Jessica Shadrick) Thompson, Melinda (Kiko Perez) Thompson, Malori (Adam Terry) Thompson, Jennifer (Eric) Lyon, Joshua (Kristen) Degenhardt, Ryan (Ashley) Degenhardt, Clayton (Savaunna Hoffmeister) Williams, Amanda (Nathan Kehoe) Williams, and Nate Beggs; great-grandchildren, Mila, Ella, Layla, Harrison, Weston, Scott, Liam, and Trysten; two brothers, Ervin (Billie) Duncan of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Howard Duncan of Lago Vista, Texas; and many other relatives and friends.
