Laverne Mary Schirmer, nee Holtgrewe, 93, of Spring, Texas, born Jan. 16, 1923, in Stone Church, Ill., died Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Park Manor Nursing Home in The Woodlands, Texas.
Laverne married Albert A. Schirmer on May 29, 1976, and they resided in Fairview Heights, Ill. She worked at St. Louis Bank and Trust for 25 years before retiring. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Fairview Heights, Ill. After the death of her husband Albert Schirmer, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. She moved to Spring, Texas to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Tom Stoerzbach for the past 12 years. She loved her large family of eight siblings and their many children, as well as her dear extended Schirmer family. Her favorite pastimes included reading, ballroom dancing, all manner of crafting, needlework and artwork, gardening, and singing. She was a loving Sunday school teacher, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend with a smile for everyone. Her laughter was contagious and uniquely recognizable. In her last years, she continued to sing with gusto all the hymns she had learned during her many years as a faithful and active church member. She frequently declared, "God is my friend!"
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Almar Philip Mueller, Jr. of New Memphis, Ill.; second husband, Albert A. Schirmer of Fairview Heights, Ill.; her parents; five brothers, Roy, Richard, Kenneth, Kermit and Edgar; two sisters, Gladys Ostendorf and Celeste Lammers; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
Left to mourn her passing are her daughter, Diana Mueller Stoerzbach and husband Tom of Spring, Texas; Patti Schirmer, wife of stepson, Robert Schirmer (deceased); a brother, Victor (Natalie) Holtgrewe of Rio Rancho, N.M.; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Kermit) Holtgrewe and Bernice Holtgrewe; sisters-in-law, Lillian (Norbert) Mueller and Emma Lou (Eldred) Mueller; Albert A. Schirmer's siblings and their spouses; five granddaughters, Dayla Stoerzbach, Amanda (Jared) Smith, Kathryn (Michael) Bierman, Abigail Schirmer, and Jacqueline Schirmer; three great-grandchildren, Benjamin Smith, Henry Biermann, and Albert Biermann; many nieces and nephews from the Holtgrewe, Mueller, and Schirmer families; two dear friends who cared for her and kept in touch, Anna Mae Krausz and Evelyn Krausz.
