Lester Schweiss Sr.|
Lester Herman Schweiss Sr., 88, of O'Fallon, Mo., born March 31, 1927, in St. Louis, Mo., passed away peacefully of natural causes Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, at the Villages of St. Peters, St. Peters, Mo.
Lester served his country in World War II as a member of the U.S. Merchant Marines. Known by his family for his tremendous work ethic, Lester was a baker owning several bakeries in St. Louis, Mo., including Grand Avenue Pastries before trying his hand at farming in Dix, Ill. In 1961 Lester left the countryside to return to St. Louis, Mo., for a position with Anheuser-Busch, and completed a 26 year career with the company in 1987, as a foreman.
He enjoyed his retirement with his wife, Gladys, spending time at Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., and winters in Florida. A devoted family man, Lester was a model husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, leading his life with humor and kindness. He will forever serve as an inspiration to those who knew and loved him.
He was the second child and first son of Vallery and Lester Schweiss, who preceded him in death; also preceded by a sister, Arline Milentz.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Gladys, nee Streckfuss, Schweiss; a brother, Robert Schweiss; a son, Lester Schweiss Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Dolores Schweiss; two grandchildren, Lester "Chip" (Sahra) Schweiss III, and Russell (Meghan) Schweiss; three great-grandchildren, Gwendolyn Schweiss, Aidan Schweiss and Lillian Schweiss; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Visitation: Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016, at Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd., St. Louis, Mo.
Funeral: Funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2016, at Kutis South County Chapel. Interment in Sunset Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
