Lillie Hasenstab Obituary
Lillie Hasenstab

Lillie V. Hasenstab, nee Tiemann, 95, of Freeburg, Ill., formerly of Belleville, Ill., born Oct. 23, 1920, died Feb. 8, 2016, at Freeburg Care Center in Freeburg, Ill.

Lil, one of 12 children, grew up enjoying sports, especially softball. It was at the Southside softball field that she met her husband, Charlie. After raising their four sons, Lil began bowling and went on to become quite proficient in the sport. She especially enjoyed her time traveling to tournaments with "the girls." She also enjoyed volunteering with the Ministry to The Sick and Aged and later with Catholic Urban Programs and St. Vincent DePaul. What gave her the most enjoyment, however, was attending her children and grandchildren's games, plays, and other activities in which they participated. She was their loudest and most fervent fan. The only thing that can compare to the love of cheering for her family was her undying love for her Chicago Cubs. She enjoyed bantering with Cardinals fans and never lost hope in her beloved "Cubbies."

Lil, was a good listener and could always put people at ease. She made friends wherever she went and many will miss her encouraging words, fun loving teasing and motherly advice.

Lil, was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie, whom she married on April 13, 1939, and who died July 11, 1985; her son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Pat Hasenstab; her parents, Henry J. and Ethel, nee Phillips, Tiemann; and her brothers and sisters, Henry, Charles, William, Theodore, Lorraine (Boop), Paul, Louis, Caroline (Cal) Baldridge, Louisa May, Ethel "Mona" Howe and Ethel Mae Hendrix.

Surviving are her sons, Dave (Katie) Hasenstab, Mike (Elaine) Hasenstab, and Gerry (Barb) Hasenstab; grandchildren, Deanna (Matt) Schoen, Derek (Tempe Thomas) Hasenstab, Maura (Brian) Ingle, Meg Ann Hasenstab, David "Jr." (Ann) Hasenstab, Mike (Denise) Hasenstab (Jr.) Tara Mattingly, Dan (Tonya) Hasenstab, John (Carly) Hasenstab, Aaron (Julie) Hasenstab and Lisa (Jonathan) Lidgus; 17 great-grandchildren, Braden and Logan Ingle, James and Ellen Hasenstab, Brandon, Alysa and Raimie Hasenstab, Chance and McKinzey Mattingly, Perry, April and Chet Hasenstab, Ani and Jacob Hasenstab, Ian and Mackenzie Hasenstab and George Lidgus; a great-great-grandchild, Chastity Glore; many loving nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and many dear friends.

Her family would like to express their gratitude to all of Lil's caretakers at Cambridge House in O'Fallon, Family Hospice Inc., and especially those at Freeburg Care Center, who gave her a place where she was loved to live out her finals months.

Memorials may be made in her name to Catholic Urban Programs, Holy Rosary St. Vincent DePaul, or Wounded Warrior Project.
