Obituary Condolences

A 20-year-old Bethalto woman was killed in a fiery crash Thursday evening on Interstate 255 near Collinsville Road. Lindsey N. James, 20, died after her car was clipped by a 1997 Toyota Corolla driven by Sharon Tripp, 61, of Memphis, Tenn., about 5:25 p.m. while they were traveling northbound on I-255 just south of Collinsville Road, according to a Illinois State Police report.
Tripp attempted to change lanes and hit the left rear bumper of James' 2007 Nissan Altima which sent Tripp's car spinning out of control and into a guardrail, according to the report.
James' car swerved off the highway, crossed the median and was struck by oncoming traffic. Mary Weber, 46, of Waterloo, was traveling southbound on I-255 and hit James' car on the passenger side. James' car was propelled onto the side of I-255 south and immediately was engulfed in flames.
A motorist, Larry Agne, stopped and pulled James from the car and two others, David Jacobs and Shelly Connor, performed CPR on James until the EMS arrived.
James was pronounced dead at 6:06 p.m. at Kenneth Hall Regional Hospital in East St. Louis.
