Louis Franklin "Louie" Dodson, 84, of Marissa, Ill., born March 29, 1931, in Bloomington, Ill., passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Belleville, Ill.
Mr. Dodson was a licensed plumber and a past-business owner. He was a United States Marine Veteran. Louis was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church, Marissa, Ill. He was a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge, UMWA, Marissa Chamber of Commerce, Gideons, and served on the Marissa Fire Department and as an EMT ambulance driver. He was a chapter dad of the Order of DeMolay. He also served on the board of the Marissa Township. Louis Dodson believed it was everyman's responsibility to make a true effort to make our society a better place for everyone; and for everyone to apply themselves to the best of their ability.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Eola, nee Smith, Dodson, whom he married Dec. 31, 1955, at First United Methodist Church in Marissa, Ill., and who passed away March 13, 2009; a son, Dan Dodson; a daugher-in-law, Tammy, nee Holt, Dodson; a great-granddaughter; his parents, Warren and Clara, nee Schneider, Dodson; a brother; and two sisters.
Surviving are his children, Nick Dodson of Collinsville, Ill., and Louann (Bryan) Luna of Jacksonville, N.C.; his grandchildren, Melissa (Keith) Curtis of Griffith, Ind., Nicole Gimber of Jacksonville, N.C., Eric Gimber of Jacksonville, N.C., Jaclyn (Justin) Mearkle of Jacksonville, N.C., Colin Dodson of Urbana, Ill., and Daniel Gimber of Jacksonville, N.C.; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Dodson of Bloomington, Ill.; and a sister, Helen (Melvin) Leake of Lexington, Ill.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family, in care of Nick Dodson.
Visitation: Friends may call from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, August 6, 2016, at First United Methodist Church, Marissa, Ill.
Funeral: A Memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, August 6, 2016, at the church. Burial will be in Coulterville Cemetery, Coulterville, Ill.
