LuCille M. Smith, nee West, 94, of Maryville, Ill., born Thursday, Sept. 15, 1921, in East St. Louis, Ill., died Monday, Aug. 29, 2016 at her residence.
LuCille worked as a retail salesperson and was a member of the former Hope Church in Belleville, Ill. She was a former member of DAR and an avid quilter. She was a successful wife and mother - she and her husband made it through two wars together. She became politically active in the last year of her life, donating to Ben Carson's Campaign and blocking out Hillary Clinton's face in newspaper photos.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldridge Eugene Smith; a son, Roger Smith; parents, Harry W. and Rosine, nee Weinmann, West; and twin brother, Lewis West.
Surviving are her children, Daena (Tom) Groves of Dallas, Texas, and Darwin (Annette) Smith of Quincy, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Cee Jay Smith of The Woodlands, Texas; seven grandchildren, Brad Smith, Kristi (Matt) Piskorz, Trey (Tami) Groves, Tim (Angela) Groves, Byron (Amanda) Smith, Andrew Smith and Zachary Smith; 10 great-grandchildren, Taylor Renee Groves, Quaid Groves, Maverick Groves, Jillian Groves, Gianna Groves, Kendra Groves, Titus Groves, Judah Groves, Kaycee Piskorz, Eric Piskorz, and one Smith on the way!
