Sister M. Michaeline Hoffmann, O.S.F., 94, of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis died Saturday, February 27, 2016, at St. Francis Convent, Springfield, Ill.
Sister M. Michaeline, the former Marcella Hoffmann, was born in Belleville, Ill., on March 11, 1921, the daughter of Frank and Mary Ripp Hoffmann. She entered the Congregation on September 7, 1940, and professed her religious vows on October 4, 1943.
Sister Michaeline graduated as an RN from St. John's School of Nursing, Springfield, Illinois, in 1948. In 1949, she continued post-graduate studies in psychiatric nursing at the Illinois School of Psychiatric Nursing. She served the
Community as a nurse at HSHS Hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin. She was a night supervisor at HSHS St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur, Ill., from 1955 until 1963. Sister was the Nurse Supervisor of Practical Nurses at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Ill., from 1964 until 1970. In 1970, Sister relocated to Chicago, Ill., and served in home nursing at the Alverna
Home Nursing Center until 1972. In 1972, she returned to the Motherhouse in Springfield, Ill., where she served in the Purchasing/Receiving Department until her retirement from active duty in 2011.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Cyril Hoffmann, Frank Hoffmann, Jr., and Bernard Hoffmann; and three sisters, Sister M. Francina (Stella) Hoffmann, S.S.N.D., Margaret Wissehr, and Sister M. Joella (Anita) Hoffmann, S.S.N.D.
She is survived by a sister, Bernice Courtemanche of North Providence, R.I.; several nieces and nephews, as well as her Franciscan Sisters with whom she shared her life for over 75 years.
Visitation: will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016, at the St. Francis Convent, with a Wake
Service at 6 p.m.
Funeral: The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2016, at St. Clair of Assisi Adoration Chapel of the St. Francis Convent, by Father Andre Schludecker, OFM. Burial will be in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.
