Magdalene M. "Maggie" Liefer, nee Stork, 80, of New Athens, Ill., born on Sept. 23, 1935 in Walsh, Ill., passed away on Thursday March 17, 2016 at the New Athens Home for the Aged in New Athens, Ill.

Mrs. Liefer and her husband owned and operated Merl and Maggie's Food and Liquor in New Athens for many years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was a former member of the Women's Guild. Maggie was a member of the VFW 7710 Auxiliary where she served as a past president and past treasurer. She was also the owner and operator of Maggie's Fashions For You Dress Shop. Maggie loved to travel and visit casinos and she operated Maggie's Tours for six years. Most of all she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to cook for her family and friends and was famous for her peach pies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Hazel, nee Heinz, Stork; three brothers; and a granddaughter, Deanna Steinwagner.

Surviving are her loving husband, Merlin Liefer whom she married on Jan. 12, 1974 at St. Paul Lutheran Church; her children, Connie Ford of Troy, Ill., Sandra Ramsey of New Athens, Ill., Barbara Pitchford of New Athens, Ill., Randy Jordan of New Athens, Ill., Renae (Carey) Coffman of New Athens, Ill., Gregory (Elizabeth) Liefer of Boise, Idaho, and Dianne Cassidy of Corvallis, Ore.; 13 grandchildren, Stephanie Hager, Nicole Crider, Ashley Totten, Bryan Ford, Mathew Ford, Kaitlyn Ford, Zachary Ford, Art Pitchford, Alecia Kerperien, Jacob Kerperien, Cash Coffman, Megan Cassidy, Joy Yaeger and Lauren Bailey; nine great-grandchildren; and her sister, Dorothy (Harold) Braun of Baldwin, Ill.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, Ill., and from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Athens, Ill.

Funeral: Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2016, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Athens, Ill., with Rev. John Lukomski officiating. Interment will be held at Oakridge Cemetery in New Athens, Ill.
