Margaret Neff

Margaret A. Neff, nee Wittenauer, 95, of Belleville, Ill., born August 10, 1920, in Hecker, Ill., died Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at Freeburg Care Center, Freeburg, Ill.

Mrs. Neff enjoyed bingo, crossword puzzles, word searches, and being with friends and family. She will be remembered for making the best pies. She was a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, Ill., where she was also a member of St. Ann's Altar Sodality and the Quilters Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Raymond S. Neff, whom she married on Jan. 27, 1942, and who died on Oct. 25, 2009; two sons, Richard Neff and Dennis Neff; a daughter, Kathleen Neff; her parents, Harry and Flora, nee Klein, Wittenauer; two brothers, Henry and Mark Wittenauer; a sister, Rita Wittenauer; and a brother-in-law, Clarence Englerth.

Surviving are five sons and two daughters, Donald (Rosemary) Neff of Columbia, Ill., Doris (Terry) Firnkes of Smithton, Ill., Virgil (Carol) Neff of Columbia, Ill., Michael Neff of Freeburg, Ill., Gary (Kasey) Neff of Smithton, Ill., Raymond D. Neff of Freeburg, Ill., and Lori Ann (Clifford) Thompson of New Baden, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Neff of Columbia, Ill.; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Norbert (Ruth) Wittenauer of Hecker, Ill., and Urban (Shirley) Wittenauer of Hecker, Ill.; a sister, Leona Englerth of Freeburg, Ill.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express special thanks to the employees and residents at Cedar Trails and at Freeburg Care Center for making Margaret's last years so enjoyable.

Visitation: Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2016, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Paderborn, Ill.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2016, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with Father Gene Neff and Msgr. William McGhee concelebrating. Burial will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery, Paderborn, Ill.
