Mariann Jankowski, nee Borowiak, 79, of Okawville, Ill., born July 25, 1931, departed this life Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Ill.
Mariann was blessed with many beautiful qualities, a kind manner, a caring, compassionate heart and a loving spirit that bound her with everyone she met. Mariann and Eddie raised five children who were known for their individuality and undying love for their family. Her grandchildren and first great-grandchild, due in March, 2011, were her joy.
Mariann was an active member of St. Barbara Catholic Church in Okawville, Ill., the St. Barbara Altar Sodality, and the Staring Over Group through Our Lady of the Snows Shrine. She dedicated many years of service to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Okawville American Legion. She was a longtime card club member and was a member of her husband's World War II Army Reunion Group.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward "Eddie" Jankowski, whom she married on Sept. 10, 1949, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Nashville, Ill., and who died Aug. 3, 1995; her parents, Nick and Emily, nee Winka, Borowiak Sr.; a brother, Andrew Borowiak; a sister, Dolores Borowiak in infancy; brothers-in-law, Fred Groennert, and Henry, Walter, Leo, and Frank Jankowski; and a dear friend, Bob Baldwin.
Surviving are her five children, Linda Kaat of Unionville, Pa., Stephen Jankowski and his wife Elizabeth of Godfrey, Ill., Laurie Heckert and her husband Bruce of Venedy, Ill., Dave Jankowski and his wife Susan of Islamorada, Fla., and Andrew Jankowski of Highland, Ill., and friend Jennifer Osaben of Collinsville, Ill.; three brothers, Martin Borowiak and his wife Leona of Afton, Mo., Nick Borowiak Jr. and his wife Jane of Nashville, Ill., and Richard Borowiak and his wife Gail of Nashville; two sisters, Jeannie Knopik and her husband Raymond of Swansea, Ill., and Patricia Groennert of Trenton, Ill.; grandchildren, Benjamin Jankowski and wife Gwen, Natasha Jankowski and husband Eric Chapman, Jessica and Nicholas Poepping, Kelly and Rebecca Heckert, Edward and Julianne Jankowski, and Marissa Sardar; sisters-in-law, Velva Jankowski of Aviston, Ill., Leona Kohorst of Springfield, Ill., and Helen Purdue of Carmi, Ill.; brother-in-law, Bernie Jankowski and wife Norma of Griggsville, Ill.; nieces and nephews; and countless friends whose lives were touched by hers.
She will be missed.

Visitation: Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, and 7:30 to 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at Campagna Funeral Home, Nashville, Ill. Rosary services will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at St. Barbara Catholic Church, Okawville, Ill., with Father Donald A. Blaes officiating. Interment will be at St. Ann Cemetery, Nashville, Ill.
