Marie O'Brien

Marie E. O'Brien, nee Doughterty, 89, of Fairview Heights, Ill., born Dec. 8, 1926, in East St. Louis, Ill., died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at St. Paul's Senior Community, Belleville, Ill., with her family at her side.

Mrs. O'Brien graduated from St. Patrick's Grade School and St. Teresa Academy. On Feb. 15, 1947, she wed Jack O'Brien, to whom she was married for 64 years before his death in 2011.

Mrs. O'Brien was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, St. Clair Women's Club, and St. Teresa Academy "Club 44." For several years she resided at Grand Manor in Swansea, Ill., where she made many wonderful friends. Most recently, she made her home at St. Paul's. Her family is grateful for the good people at St. Paul's who took such loving tender care of her.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Leo J. and Marie Antoinette, nee Savard, Dougherty; a brother, Donald J. Dougherty; a brother, in infancy, Leo; and a nephew, Donald J. Dougherty Jr.

Surviving are her daughter, Ellen (Steven) Martin of Sammamish, Wash.; two grandchildren, Michael (Dominique) Martin of Sammamish, Wash., and Katherine Martin of Sammamish, Wash., and Manhattan Beach, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Magdalene, Christopher, Thomas and Patrick O'Brien Martin, all of Sammamish, Wash.; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made in the form of prayers and Masses offered for Mrs. O'Brien. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation: Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Caseyville, Ill.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church with Fr. Raymond Schultz and Msgr. John T. Myler concelebrating. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
