Marion Tottleben

Marion M. Tottleben, 92, of New Douglas, Ill., born June 24, 1924, in East St. Louis, Ill., passed away Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at home surrounded by family.

Mr. Tottleben proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He was a hardworking, dedicated employee of Swift & Co., in East St. Louis and retired after 40 years of service. He was devoted to his faith and was a member of the Christadelphians. He loved the outdoors very much and proudly owned six wooded acres, which he cleared himself in order to build his home that he has lived in for the past 30 years. Even up to just a few years ago, he could be found outdoors cutting down trees and chopping wood. He turned his hobby into a business by seasoning, selling, and delivering the fruits of his labor. He was also an avid history buff, who was very knowledgeable on early European Wars, the Civil War, and both World Wars. In addition to his passion for history, he was very interested in genealogy, spending long hours in the library researching. He also couldn't pass up watching an old country western movie and enjoyed gardening and nature. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who will truly be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Ruth J., nee Taylor, Tottleben, whom he married in 1945; his parents, John L. and Harriet M., nee Dugger, Tottleben; and all his siblings.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his children, William E. (Pamela) Tottleben of Shiloh, Ill., Thomas E. (Kim) Tottleben of Edwardsville, Ill., Michael M. (Ann) Tottleben of Edgerton, Mo., Daniel L. Tottleben of Trimble, Mo., and Marsha L. Saleh of New Douglas, Ill.; his 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
