Martin Abilez, Sr.
Martin V. Abilez, Sr., 76, of Fairmont City, Ill., born May 26, 1929, in Del Rio, Texas, died on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, Ill.
Martin worked a total of 36 years as a proprietor of barber shops, most notably at the Railway Exchange Bldg. and Chemical Bldg. in St. Louis, Mo. Before he retired, he owned and operated the Fairmont Barber Shop in Fairmont City, Ill. During this time he also managed a family-owned real estate business. Martin was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Air Force. During his military service, Martin represented the Air Force as a boxer. He enjoyed tennis and golf as hobbies. He was a devoted family man, as a husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andres and Eliasar, nee Vidaurri, Abilez.
He is survived by his wife, Margarita G. "Lupe", nee Guardado, Abilez; five children, Marty (Lisa) Abilez, Jr. of Maryville, Ill., Rebecca (Ted) Klutho of Crestwood, Mo., Michelle Rene (Bob) Crain of O'Fallon, Ill., Ed (Laura) Abilez of Ballwin, Mo., and Robert Abilez of Chicago, Ill.; five grandchildren, Audrey, Jacob and Parker Crain, Eddie Jr. and David Abilez; two sisters, Amelia Key of Fairmont City, Ill., and Audelia Torres of Junction, Texas.
Memorials may be made to Gateway Regional Hospice.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at Kassly Mortuary Chapel, Fairview Heights, Ill., with Dr. Steve Phillips officiating. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
