Martin Joseph Scharf, 48, of Smithton, Ill., born Aug. 8, 1956, in Belleville, Ill., died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Ill.
Mr. Scharf was an auto claims adjuster for USAA Insurance Co. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Smithton, Ill., where he served as an usher and a Eucharistic minister. He was also an active participant of TEC and Quest Youth Retreat for the Diocese of Belleville, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Scharf; and a dear friend, Tony Amann.
Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Kathy, nee Wright, Scharf, whom he married Oct. 8, 1977, at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Belleville, Ill.; two daughters, Stephanie (Tim) Diekemper of Smithton, Ill., and Stacy Scharf of Smithton, Ill.; his mother, Rose, nee Klein, Scharf-Vogt of Millstadt, Ill.; two brothers, Daniel Scharf and Mark Scharf, both of Millstadt, Ill.; a sister, Vicky Brennan of Millstadt, Ill.; his stepfather, Ralph Vogt of Belleville, Ill.; a stepsister, Sharon (Edgar) Stallman of Millstadt, Ill.; four stepbrothers, Dennis Vogt of Belleville, Ill., Roger (Joy) Vogt of Millstadt, Ill., Allen Vogt of Belleville, Ill., and Dale (Sherri) Vogt of Paderborn, Ill.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Noel and Marietta Wright of Fairview Heights, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Donna Zakas of Fairview Heights, Ill.; four nephews, Keith (Jennifer) Brennan of Ozark, Ill., Eric (Alessa) Brennen of Ozark, Ill., and Michael and Troy Case of Belleville, Ill.; a great-niece, Keri Rose Brennan; dear friends, Angie and Taylor Amann; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family or to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill., and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Smithton, Ill.
Funeral: A Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Smithton, Ill., with the Rev. Kenneth York officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Smithton, Ill.
