Marvin Hentzel

Marvin William Hentzel, 90, of New Athens, Ill., born June 15, 1926 in Belleville, Ill., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016 at the New Athens Home for the Aged.

Mr. Hentzel, with his family, operated the International Harvester Dealership and the Chrysler Dealership in New Athens. Later he was an insurance agent with Prudential Insurance Company until his retirement. Marvin was a faithful and active member of St. Agatha Catholic Church. He was a United States Army Air Corps veteran serving in World War II. Marvin was the last charter member of the New Athens Lions Club. He was a member of American Legion Post 565, New Athens Commercial Club, and board member of the Kaskaskia Water District.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Della, nee Huber, Hentzel; a brother, Merle Hentzel; and a son-in-law, Alan Schmidt.

Surviving are his loving wife, Dorothy, nee Utz, Hentzel whom he married on Sept. 23, 1950 at St. Agatha Catholic Church in New Athens, Ill.; his children, Joel (Angie) Hentzel of Mc Calla, Ala., Jan (Craig) Schwartz of O'Fallon, Ill., Jeana Schmidt of Marissa, Ill., and Julie (Mike) Crowe of Edwardsville, Ill.; his grandchildren, Jonathon (fiance, Jill Stuckey) Hentzel, Jennifer Hentzel, Allison (Chad) Carrico, Laura (Brad) Davis, Brad (Katie) Taake, Jackie (Phil) Weaver, Joanna (Matt Lindauer) Schmidt, Megan Crowe and Brian Crowe. Also survived by seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, Ill. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.



Funeral: A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, at St. Agatha Catholic Church in New Athens, Ill., with Father James Nall officiating. Interment will be at St. Agatha Catholic Cemetery in New Athens, Ill.
