Mary Jane Gass

Mary Jane Gass, nee Brugger, 77, of Granite City, Ill., born March 21, 1934, in Murphysboro, Ill., died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at her residence.

Mrs. Gass was the manager of Gass Farms, past president of Madison County Genealogy Society, Madison County Farm Bureau Women's Committee, and active her entire life in farming in the tri-city area. She loved spending time with her family and working in the garden.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gordon G. Gass whom she married on Jan. 24, 1959; a son-in-law Rick Harvey; and parents, Anthony Charles and Marina Armella, nee Heinrich, Brugger.

Surviving are her son, Jeff Gass of Granite City, Ill.; daughters, Marilyn Harvey of Belleville, Ill., and Linda and Patrick Burgess of Granite City, Ill.; sisters, Armella Brugger of East Alton, Ill., Marita Biggerstaff of Roxana, Ill., and Dorothy Biesk of Wood River, Ill.; niece Julie Biesk of Alton, Ill.; and nephew Steve Biesk of Hartford, Ill.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Rd., Granite City, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Father Chris Comerford officiating. Burial will be at West Cemetery, Thayer, Ill.
