Mary "Kate" Ryan, 94, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016, at Lanier Village Nursing Home in Gainesville, Georgia.
Kate was originally from East St. Louis, Illinois, and attended St. Teresa Academy. After graduation she attended Maryville University where she received her associate's degree. Kate then worked for several years as a librarian at Clark Junior High School.
Kate eventually married her childhood sweetheart, Jack Ryan, and they were married for 67 years. Kate and Jack had many friends and were active members of Blessed Sacrament Church. If Kate was not at home taking care of her children, Mike and Kathy, you could probably find her at St. Clair Country Club on the golf course or playing bridge. Kate was an avid golfer and even had a "hole in one" at Bear's Paw Country Club in Naples, Florida, where Kate and Jack had a winter home. She also loved reading and working cross word puzzles.
Kate was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack; and her parents, Michael and Mary Katherine Kicham.
Surviving are her children, Kathleen (Joe) Proterra of Gainesville, Georgia, and Michael J. (Janet) Ryan of Fairview Heights, Illinois; grandchildren, Tim (Michelle) Proterra of Kansas City, Kansas, Nick Proterra of Decatur, Georgia, Daniel Ryan of Bozeman, Montana and Justin (Ashlie) Kuehn; and great-grandchildren, Brooke and Jack Proterra of Kansas City, Kansas, and Jack, Brooke, and Caroline Kuehn of Belleville, Illinois
