Melvin O. P. "Mel" Weil, 97, of O'Fallon, Ill., born January 1, 1919, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016, in Shiloh, Ill.
Mel was a member of the United Church of Christ in O'Fallon, Ill. He was also involved with the Enterprise Grange in O'Fallon. He had spent his entire life as a farmer and was an avid gardener in later years; he was happiest when he was "digging in the dirt". He loved his home town, St. Louis Cardinals and was an avid baseball fan. He enjoyed being surrounded by family, especially his grand and great grandchildren; he will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude M. Weil, nee Barth; his parents, Henry and Emma, nee Meckfessel, Weil; a brother, Alfred Weil; and a sister, Irma Prando.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Pat (John) Casper of Ennis, Texas and Lynda (Douglas) Long of O'Fallon, Ill.; his grandchildren, Phillip (Lori) Casper of Springhill, La., Douglas (Jennifer) Casper of Moscow, Texas, Bradley Long and Gillian Long, both of O'Fallon, Ill.; six great-grandchildren, Jessica, Megan, Eric, Thomas, Alan, and Cole; a sister-in-law, Madeline Weil of Edwardsville, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, Ill. The Enterprise Grange will hold a walk-through at 7 p.m., Sunday evening.
Funeral: Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, January 18, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment will be held privately in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill.
