Michael J. "Buff' Cassin, 64, of Belleville, Ill., born Aug. 16, 1944, in East St. Louis, Ill., died Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis, Mo., after a two year heroic struggle.
Mike was a graduate of Assumption High School and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He served his country proudly in the U. S. Army. He was a huge football fan, loved fishing, visiting Las Vegas, and bar-b-queuing for the people he loved.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Joseph and Veronica Mae, nee Langley, Cassin; and grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
Surviving are his loving and faithful wife of 40 years, Linda Lee, nee Berens, Cassin whom he married on Dec. 6, 1968, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Belleville, Ill.; his daughter, Maureen of Las Vegas, Nev.; his sisters, Kathy Crismon of Belleville, Ill., and Patti (Lloyd) Cueto of Belleville, Ill.; his mother-in-law, Lola Berens of Belleville, Ill.; his aunt, Elizabeth Cassin of Redondo Beach, Calif.; his brother-in-law, Tom Berens of Belleville, Ill.; his nieces, Sandra (Jaime) Salinas and children, Samuel, Riley, and Amelia of Mascoutah, Ill., Alison Berens of Belleville, Ill., and Kellie Crismon of Belleville, Ill.; nephews, Marc (Lisa) Laidley and children, Isabella and Vincent of St. Louis, Mo., and Lloyd Cueto of Belleville, Ill.; and many close and dear cousins. Although he had no brothers, Mike was blessed with a wonderful and lifelong friendship with his brother-in-law, Lloyd Cueto.
Memorials may be made on Mike's behalf to the Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis, 8420 Delmar Blvd., Ste. 506, St. Louis, Mo., 63124.
