Nellie Celia Dierker, nee Kolhage, 89, of Granite City, Ill. departed to be face to face with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016.
Nellie was born Jan. 7, 1927 in Granite City, Ill. and resided there her entire life. She was employed in the Payroll Department at Granite City Steel, retiring in 1993 after 35 years of dedicated service.
Nellie was a longtime member of Second Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was a Sunshine Class member. After becoming unable to attend on a regular basis, she continued her service to the Lord at Berachah Church in Houston, Texas through telephone hook-up.
An accomplished artist and photographer, Nellie received many awards at local, regional and statewide competitions. Nellie was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Goldie Smith, and sister, Ethel Kolhage.
Surviving are her son, Kenneth Dierker; an aunt, Anneliese Bulander; dear cousins and caregivers Nellie Forrest, and Betty Forehand; cousin Karin Newman; and special friends and caregivers Joan Kars and Kat Robinson.
Memorial donations may be given to Second Baptist Church and donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.irwinchapel.com.
Visitation: Friends may visit from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, Ill.
Funeral: In celebration of her life, funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2016 at Irwin Chapel with Pastor Brian Smith officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, Ill.
