Nora Becherer

Nora A. Becherer, nee Bergheger, 90, of Smithton, Ill., born June 7, 1923, in Mascoutah, Ill., died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Belleville, Ill.

Mrs. Becherer was a health care worker at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Belleville, Ill., and at Park Haven Nursing Home, Smithton, Ill. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Smithton, Ill., the Smithton Senior Citizens Club, and the Smithton American Legion Auxiliary.

Nora was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Henry T. Becherer, whom she married on July 3, 1945, and who died Sept. 11, 1973; her parents, Joseph and Mary Ann, nee Rebenstorf, Bergheger; two sons in infancy; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; her twin sister, Cora (Clifford) Meyer; a sister, Marie (Raymond) Juenger; three sons-in-law, Roland Huch, Daniel Saylors, and Richard Warren; sisters-in-law; and brothers-in-law.

Surviving are six daughters, Nancy Huch of Smithton, Ill., Mary Saylors of Smithton, Ill., Phyllis Warren of Red Bud, Ill., Barbara (Bill) Wilson of New Athens, Ill., Carol (Ted) Popp of Smithton, Ill., and Betty (Richard) Wirth of Baldwin, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, Lisa (Jeff) Mohr, Mark (Annette) Parker, Richard (Julie) Parker, Kim Schaefer, Scott (Dawn) Schaefer, Traci Weber, Tabby (Rick) Mayhan, Stacey Warren Carter (Jim Staffo), Tim (Jayme) Warren, Vicki (Tom) Steibel, Valerie (Matt) Tepe, and Nick Popp; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law; brother-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and her three canine companions, Mamie, Spencer, and Maggie.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Smithton, Ill. A Senior Citizens walk through will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Funeral: Funeral procession will leave at 9:35 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, from George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Smithton, Ill., for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Smithton, Ill., with Father Stan Konieczny officiating. Burial will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Smithton, Ill.
