Nuvart Kachigian, 78, of Granite City, Ill. passed away Thursday, June 2, 2016, at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.
Nuvart was born Dec. 28, 1937, in Istanbul, Turkey, a daughter of the late Nazaret and Adrine, nee Haroian, Donikian.
Nuvart was a well-known business woman in and around the Granite City area who owned and operated Tony's Restaurant, The Snack Shack and A & W Root Beer. She was a member of St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church in Granite City, Ill., and in her free time enjoyed playing bridge, watching foreign movies and traveling. She will be remembered for her kind heart and all the special times she shared with her family and friends.
Surviving are her husband, Amerik "Rick" Kachigian, whom she married March 21, 1959; her children, Lydia Kachigian (Dr. Raffi Krikorian) of St. Louis, Mo., Dr. Claudia Kachigian of Pontoon Beach, Ill., and Dr. Armand Kachigian of Pontoon Beach, Ill.; her grandchildren, Adrine Krikorian, Mariam "Gabby" Krikorian, Giselle Krikorian, and Barrett Glass; her brother, Serge Donikian; and a nephew, Dr. Sergio Donikian.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church.
Services: In celebration of her life, services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016, at St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church, 3501 Century Drive, Granite City, Ill., with Father Torkum Chorbajian officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, Ill.
