Opal Allen
Opal L. Allen, 80, of Collinsville, Ill., born Nov. 1, 1933, in Ripley, Miss., passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville with her family by her side.
Opal was a long time housekeeper for many area residents and a member of Good Samaritan Church of the Nazarene in Collinsville. She will be remembered for her kind and loving heart and the many special times she shared with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jewel Stroud; her second husband, Dean Allen; her son, Charles Stroud; parents, Herman "Dot" and Pearl, nee Lumpkin, Bridges Singleton; brother, Jack Bridges; and sisters, Francis Hollis, Ola M. Taylor and Ruth Ann Gandy.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Carol, nee Stroud, and Arlie L. Carr Jr., of Hamel, Ill.; her son and fiancee, Randy Stroud and Kathy Powers of Moberly, Mo.; and son, Allen Stroud of Chicago, Ill.; grandchildren, Jason (Stacey) Stroud, Rebecca L., nee Carr, (David) Endsley, Arlie "Jack" Carr III, Tina Stroud, Kim Stroud and Jeremy Stroud; sisters, Shirley Bunch and Roberta Sue Gentle; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road, Glen Carbon, Ill.
Funeral: In celebration of her life services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at the funeral home with Pastor Kevin Hancock officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Edwardsville, Ill.
