Opal M. Kraus, 88, of Steeleville, Ill., born Jan. 15, 1928, in Plum Hill Township passed away at 8:20 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2016, at the Randolph County Care Center in Sparta, Ill.
Opal was baptized on Feb. 5, 1928, at St. John United Church of Christ. On March 24, 1946, she was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in New Minden, Ill., by Rev. P.F. Harre.
Opal worked in quality control at Spartan Light Metals for 33 years until her retirement. She was an active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and an active member of the Senior Citizens in Steeleville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reinhard "Bud" Kraus, whom she married on June 2, 1946, at St. John Lutheran Church in New Minden, Ill., and who died June 4, 2008; her parents, Henry and Laura Nagel; a son, Darrel Kraus; a grandson, Jason Smith; a great-grandson, Blake Kraus; her brother, Evans Nagel; and a nephew, Bill Nagel.
Opal leaves to mourn her passing her children, Alice (Bill) Knop of Steeleville, Jeannette (James) Smith of Steeleville, Richard (Linda) Kraus of Fort Wayne, Ind., Marsha (Gary) Fulton of O'Fallon, Ill., and Cheryl (Michael) Kennedy of Cutler, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; and a multitude of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Vernon Nagel; and her sister-in-law, Regina Kraus.

Visitation: Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2016, and from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016, at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville, Ill., and then from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Rev. Kelly C. Bedard officiating. Burial will follow at Paradise Cemetery in Steeleville, Ill.
