Paul A. Herzog, 69, of Prairie du Rocher, Ill., born Dec. 10, 1946, in St. Louis, Mo., passed away May 18, 2016 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Paul was a life-time farmer. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairie du Rocher, Ill., and served on the parish council. He was very active in his community and served on the Prairie du Rocher Public School Board; the board of the Prairie du Rocher Volunteer Fire Department and served as president of the board for six years and was on the board of directors for the Randolph County Farm Bureau.
Paul was a Marine Corp veteran and served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 622 and served as sergeant at arms and commander. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 6632 in Red Bud and was commander from 1973-74. He was also a member of the Marine Corp League in Randolph County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary, nee Deterding, Herzog; and his father-in-law, Orville Bievenue.
Surviving are his wife, Carol Faye, nee Bievenue, Herzog, whom he married on July 22, 1972, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairie du Rocher, Ill.; four sons, Jason (Sarah) Herzog of Halethorpe, Md., Jarret (Sherri) Herzog of Prairie du Rocher, Ill., Brian (Veronica) Herzog of Everett, Wash., and Craig (Monica) Herzog of Belleville, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Karleigh, Aleighna, Cassandra, Joshua, Jada, Jesse and Cameron; five siblings, Pat (Debra) Herzog of Beardstown, Ill., Don (Sandy) Herzog of Hudson, Mass., Joan (Steve) Monrotus of Farmington, Mo., Ann (Bill Thompson) Herzog of Washington, DC, and Mark Herzog of Prairie du Rocher, Ill.; his mother-in-law, Ethel Bievenue of Chester, Ill.; two brothers-in-law, Mike (Anita) Bievenue of Chester, Ill., and Tom (Betty) Bievenue of Prairie du Rocher, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation: Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2016 and from 8 to 9:15 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2016 at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairie du Rocher, Ill., with Msgr. Daniel J. Jurek officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Prairie du Rocher, Ill.
