1931 - 2016 Obituary Condolences
Richard B. Kapp Obituary
Richard Kapp

Richard Bernard Kapp, 85, of Fairview Heights, Ill., born Feb. 6, 1931, in Highland, Ill., departed this life on April 24, 2016. He was at home and surrounded by his loving family when he began his new life in heaven.

He served his country in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Wicks Organ, Hunter Packing, Swift Packing, and St. Albert the Great Parish in Fairview Heights, Ill.

Rich was a longtime parishioner of St. Albert the Great, now Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and for decades was a dedicated member of the Thursday Crew and worked Fish Fries and many other parish functions. He loved fishing and gardening and was a member of the Trenton Sportsman Club and the American Legion in Breese, Ill.

With his steadfast faith and by his daily example, he taught his children that a life of service to others is a life worth living. Rich lived simply, but was lavish in his compassion and kindness to everyone who was fortunate to cross his path. His patience, dry humor, and sense of fairness were celebrated by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Mary, nee Kruep, Kapp; his sisters and their spouses, Viola (Alphonse) Trame, Leona (Raymond) Ratterman, Evelyn (August) Ratterman, Irene (Arnold) Gebke, Eleanor (Cornelius) Renschen, and Mary Ann (Paul) Ripperda; and his brother and his wife, Harold (Josephine) Kapp. He was also preceded in death by his godchild, Andrew Ratterman.

Rich married Netty, nee Kampwerth, Kapp on Feb. 6, 1957, at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose, Ill., on their shared birthday. She survives, along with the nine children they raised together: Donna (John) Gorbutt of Flowermound, Texas; Helen (Kevin) Pearson of Shiloh, Ill.; Richard (Sherry McTigue) of Highland, Ill.; Alan (Cindy Clifton) of Freeburg, Ill.; Phyllis (Tony) Schneider of Fairview Heights, Ill.; Roger (Jan Eaton) Kapp, of Fairview Heights, Ill.; Sandra (Don) Eversole of Belleville, Ill.; Brian (Jamie Ellison) of Fairview Heights, Ill.; and Craig (Lori Miller) of O'Fallon, Ill. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Josh Gorbutt, Zachary Gorbutt, Mandi (Pearson) Yancey, Andrew Pearson, Michael Kapp, Megan Kapp, Morghan Kapp, Melissa Kapp, Ashley Kapp Oswald, Kelly Kapp, Alex Schneider, Tony Schneider, Richard Kapp II, Joseph Kapp, Cody Eversole, Jake Eversole, Haley Kapp, Bree Kapp, Katlyn Kapp, and Emily Kapp; great-grandchildren Peyton Yancey, Tyler Kutz, Gabe Klein, Landon Oswald, Bentley Eversole, and Paisley Eversole; his sister, Clara (Jerome) Korte; and sisters-in-law, Emmy Kampwerth, Sister Georgia Kampwerth, ASC, Ann Alberterenst, and Jane Jansen.
