Rita M. Eilers, 89, of Highland, Ill., born Aug. 8, 1926, in Highland, Ill., died Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at her residence in rural Highland, Ill.
Rita grew up in St. Rose, Ill. She attended St. Rose School. Before her marriage, she was a candy striper with St. Joseph Hospital. After marriage, she and her husband lived southeast of Highland in the Sebastopol area. She and her husband renovated the old East Sugar Creek School House on Leroy Road and made it their home in 1950. She had lived all of her life on the same hectare of land (89 years). She made her own wine for 30 years. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and canning. Rita cleaned the Aviston American Legion Hall for many years. She loved spending time with her large family.
She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. She was also a member of Lee Iten Post 439-American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Highland, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert T. Eilers, whom she married on July 10, 1946, at St. Rose Catholic Church, and who died Nov. 20, 2005; her parents, Aloysius H. and Mary O., nee Geiger, Woltering; three sons, Richard C. Eilers, Jerome R. Eilers, and in infancy, Frank A. Eilers; a daughter, Nancy K. Floyd; a sister, Stella M. Lynge; and three brothers, U.S. Air Force Tech Sgt. James V. Woltering, John H. F. Woltering and Aloysius F. "Jackie" Woltering.
Surviving are her children, Patricia A. (Vince) Henrichs of Roswell, Ga., Carol J. (Robert) Petermeyer of Carlyle, Ill., Elmer J. (Yevon) Eilers of Highland, Ill., Donald A. (Jane) Eilers of Trenton, Ill., Ronald J. (Janet) Eilers of Highland, Ill., Sharon S. (Danny) Culbertson of Shobonier, Ill., Rose M. McKee of Star, Idaho, Thomas A. (Laurie) Eilers of Troy, Ill., Francis J. "Frenchie" (Laurie) Eilers of Pocahontas, Ill., David A. (Doris) Eilers of Pocahontas, Ill., and Jeffrey J. Eilers of Highland, Ill.; 41 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Theodore B. (Catherine) Woltering of Carlyle, Ill.; and three sisters, Emma H. Volin of Lombard, Ill., Sister Olivia A. Woltering ASC of Red Bud, Ill., and Mary A. (Floyd) Gilomen of Highland, Ill.

Visitation: Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2016, and from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, Ill., with Rev. Father Pat G. Jakel officiating.
