Rita Joan Barnhart, 81, of Granite City, Ill., born Sept. 4, 1934, died Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Granite City Nursing and Rehab, Granite City, Ill.
Rita worked as a Madison Public School District teacher from 1965-1987. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Madison, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Barnhart; a son, Fr. Victor Barnhart; and her parents, Ernest and Floyce, nee Troutman, Penrod.
Surviving are her daughter, Christy Barnhart of Granite City, Ill.; and a half-brother, Paul (Paula) Penrod of Mt. Vernon, Ill.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church, American Kidney Foundation, the Deaf Ministry of St. Louis, Mo., or to Hospice.
Visitation: Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Thomas Saksa Funeral Home, Granite City, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2016, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Madison, Ill., with Rather Jason Stone officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glen Carbon, Ill.
