Robert J. Burch, 88, of Belleville, Ill., born Thursday, May 5, 1927, in East St. Louis, Ill., died Thursday, March 17, 2016 at his residence.
Robert worked as a chemical operator for Monsanto. He was a United States World War II Navy veteran and served on the USS Takelma and the YMS-159 Mine Sweeper. He was involved in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign, the atom bomb testing, and was a purple heart recipient. He was a member of American Legion in Columbia, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence J. Burch; mother, Helen, nee Haywood, McCoy; stepfather, Ralph Dunham; and brother, Ralph "Babe" Dunham.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara A., nee Gossett, Burch of Belleville, Ill.; daughter, Kathleen J. (Anthony Piazza) Burch of St. Pete Beach, Fla.; son, Robert S. (Jama) Burch of Belleville, Ill.; brothers, Ed Dunham of Apple Valley, Calif., and Roy (Amelia) McCoy of Austin, Texas; grandsons, Robert Scott (Aleah) Burch, Jr. of Belleville, Ill., and Tyler J. Burch of Dekalb, Ill.; great-grandson, Colin Burch; and dear nieces and nephews.

Funeral: Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2016 at Kurrus Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, Ill.
