Obituary Condolences

Robert Carter

Robert L. Carter, 62, of St. Louis, Mo., passed away Monday, May 23, 2016 at his home.

Affectionately known as "Bob", "Bob-O", or "UB" to those who knew and loved him, Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Thaddeus and Sally, nee Wolski, Carter of Alton, Ill. He was also preceded in death by his very dear friend and partner in crime, Jackie Kidder.

Bob leaves behind a multitude of close friends and colleagues, as well as a sister, Susan Carter of Michigan; and two nieces, Hannah Carter and Elizabeth Carter of New York.

Bob obtained a B.A. from Southern Illinois University and a J.D. in 1981 from The John Marshall Law School (Chicago). A voracious reader and history buff, and part-time cowboy, Bob was known not only for his academia but also his culinary skills, humor, ability to turn strangers to friends, and a unique knack to change topics from football to politics in the same conversation.

A memorial scholarship fund is being established so Bob can continue to mentor lawyers and paralegals posthumously. Information for the fund can be obtained by contacting BobCarterScholarship@gmail.com.

Services: A celebration of the life of Bob Carter will be held at Tony's in Alton, Ill., on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 7 p.m. and again on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 4 p.m.
