Robert M. Hosto, 80, of Alhambra, Ill., born Dec. 18, 1935, in Highland, Ill., died Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra, Ill.

Bob was born in Highland but grew up north of Alhambra on the family farm, that has been in his family since 1886. He attended Gehrig School and graduated from Highland High School in 1953. He attended Indiana Institute of Technology at Fort Wayne, where he received a degree in mechanical engineering. He had worked at Emerson Electric in Washington Park, Ill., Basler Electric in Highland, Ill., and Kaiser Chemical in Alhambra, Ill. He devoted all his time to farming in the late 1970's. He retired in 2000. He moved to Hitz Home in Alhambra in April of 2015. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren to county fairs to show cattle, he liked making crafts, wood working, his garden, and antiquing with his wife. He served from 1974 to 1993 on the Highland Community School Board. He also served as treasurer on the Alhambra Ambulance District and Alhambra Fire District for 20 years. He was a former member of Salem United Church of Christ and served as council member and Sunday school teacher.

Bob was a member of the Highland Hope United Methodist Church and the Madison County Farm Bureau.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Freida, nee Wegman, Hosto.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Marie, nee Suhre, Hosto, whom he married on Nov. 22, 1955; a son, Mark R. (Brenda) Hosto of Alhambra, Ill.; two daughters, Terri L. Hosto of Brentwood, Mo., and Kim A. (Alex) Shimkus of Grayslake, Ill.; two grandchildren, Andrea L. Hosto of Alhambra, Ill., and Robert R. Hosto of Alhambra, Ill.; and two sisters, JoAnn (James) Kijewski of Lansing, Ill., and Betty J. (Olin) Zweck of New Douglas, Ill.

Memorial contributions may be made to Highland Hope United Methodist Church; Alhambra Fire Protection District, Knight Alzheimer Disease Research Center - Washington University School of Medicine.

Visitation: Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015, at Dauderman Mortuary in Alhambra, Ill., and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015, at Highland Hope United Methodist Church in Highland, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015, at Highland Hope United Methodist Church in Highland, Ill., with Rev. Dr. Beverly Wilkes Null officiating. Interment will be at Salem Cemetery in Alhambra, Ill.
