Rodney Nesbitt

Obituary Condolences

Police on Thursday were searching for a suspect who has been charged with committing the city's 21st homicide of the year.

Correy J. Midgett, 24, of 910 Gross Ave., Apt. 4, in East St. Louis was charged Thursday with first-degree murder in connection with the killing of Rodney Nesbitt, 19, of East St. Louis.

Police Chief Michael Baxton described the suspect as "armed and extremely dangerous."

Nesbitt was gunned down shortly before 4 a.m. Sept. 10 outside Page 10 Lounge at 1318 N. Ninth St. in East St. Louis. Police have said 13 shots were fired at Nesbitt after he left the bar, and several of the shots hit him.

When asked how Midgett became a suspect, Baxton said: "After doing our investigation, we have several witnesses that were able to put him there at the scene, and we've got a couple eyewitnesses."

After the killing, the city suspended the bar's business license at Baxton's request.
