Ronald D. Achenbach, 80, of Collinsville, Ill., born Feb. 3, 1935, in Brownstown, Ill., passed away at 1:36 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill.

Ron was a 1953 Collinsville Township High School graduate. He retired from Granite City Steel after 35 years of service as a steel worker, and was a former member of Local 16 United Steel Workers Union. He organized the annual Local 16 retiree's Christmas party, as well as the CTHS class of 1953 alumni men's luncheon. Ron enjoyed volunteering for numerous organizations including the Friends of the Collinsville Historical Museum, and the Collinsville High School Band. Family was important to Ron and he loved spending time and traveling with them.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen J., nee Fults, Achenbach; and his parents, Clifford Achenbach and Lavonne, nee Henna, Kimutis.

He is survived by two sons, Jim (Patti) Achenbach of Collinsville, Ill., and Mark (Joyce) Achenbach of Maryville, Ill.; three grandchildren, Ronnie (Heather) Achenbach of Belleville, Ill., Billy Achenbach of Columbia, Md., and Katie Achenbach of Lafayette, La.; two great-grandchildren, Spencer and Lily Achenbach; a half sister, Kim Achenbach of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Fay Fults of Collinsville, Ill.; and an aunt, Thelma Koonce of Cape Coral, Fla.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Home and Community Care, Hoyleton Children's Home, or Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home. For condolences go to barrywilsonfuneralhome.com

Visitation: Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral service will be at noon following the visitation at the funeral home with Rev. Jim Donahue officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill.
